Tiles are heavy, brittle and sold by the box. A box of floor tiles often weighs 20 kg or more; it is stacked on pallets, carried by hand on site and often trucked hundreds of kilometres before it is opened. Eastern Dragon makes tile cartons in Addis Ababa for ceramic tile factories, made to the exact size and count of your tiles and printed with the information your buyers look for.

A tile carton has to fit tight: any play lets the tiles rub and chip their edges. Most are wrap-around or tray designs cut to the tile size, with corner protection where needed, and the board is chosen for the weight of a full box. Where tiles are exported, the carton must also survive the road to Djibouti and sea freight.

ISO 13006, the international standard for ceramic tiles, asks for tiles or their packaging to carry the manufacturer and country of origin, the quality, the tile type and group, the nominal and work sizes, the surface, the number of tiles, the batch, the shade and the maximum weight. We print the fixed details on the carton and leave a clear panel for the batch and shade your line stamps on each run.

What must be printed on a ceramic tile box?

ISO 13006 lists ten items for tiles or their packaging: manufacturer and country of origin, first quality, tile type and group, nominal and work sizes, glazed or unglazed, any surface treatment, the number of tiles, the batch, the shade and the maximum weight of the box.

Can the batch and shade be marked for each run?

Yes. The fixed details are printed on the carton; batch and shade change from run to run, so we leave a clear panel where your line stamps or labels them.

How strong does a tile carton need to be?

Strong enough for the full box weight, commonly 20 kg or more for floor tiles, and the stacking height on your pallets. Send the weight and the pallet pattern and we will recommend the board.
